What Exactly Is A Doula?
Birth doulas are professionals experienced and/or trained in childbirth, who can provide emotional, informational, and physical support, as well as advocacy, to birthing families during their childbearing years. Doulas support all types of births in all settings and can help you to have informed choices surrounding your pregnancy and birth. The essential role of a doula is providing continuous labor support no matter what decisions the birthing person makes or how they give birth. As a certified holistic doula, I also have an expanded knowledge of nutrition, homeopathy, herbs, and essential oils, which can help give you even more options to help you achieve your goals for you and your baby.
Holistic Doula Services
Who you choose to be a part of your support system can directly impact your birthing experience. One of the most important aspects of giving birth, no matter how it occurs, is feeling secure, safe, and supported. Doulas are a great addition to your support team since they are focused on you and your emotional and physical needs at all times. They help keep you informed and aware of your options for you and your baby and help ensure you feel supported in your choices. There are no specific birthing requirements to receive care from a doula; we support all birthing people in all birthing settings from all types of backgrounds. We welcome and support the uniqueness of you and your birth.
Our doula services include, but are not limited to:
Initial consultations are where the doula-client relationship begins. This is your family's time to get to know me to see if I'm a good fit for you. Since the doula-client relationship is a partnership, it is important that you get to know me as much as I will get to know you. These consultations are complimentary and are provided for free.
Included in our standard care package are two personalized prenatal visits where I will further get to know you and your family and discuss your desires for your upcoming birth so I can learn how I can best support you. During this time we can also make a customized birth plan and answer any questions you might have about your pregnancy and birth.
On-Call Commitment and Continuous Labor Support
From the time you hire me, I am available to help you with any questions or concerns you might have. I am officially on-call for your labor support from 38 weeks until you give birth. I stay with you for your entire labor until 1-2 hours after your baby is born to help facilitate bonding and breastfeeding (if that is something you desire) and help you get comfortable and settled in with your new baby.
Because the fourth trimester can sometimes take some time to adjust to, I will remain available for further emotional and informational support during the first six weeks following your birth. Included in our standard care package are two postpartum visits. I will meet with you within three days of your birth and once more within six weeks. During these visits we can discuss everything from your birth experience, to how you're feeling and recovering, to breastfeeding and newborn care. *Additional breastfeeding peer counselor sessions are also available.
*Because we believe everyone who wants doula support deserves to have it, payment plans are available per request. However, because our services are in high demand and it's first come first serve, our retainer fee is still due upon contract signing.
